WHY IS THE CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM INDICATOR IMPORTANT?

GOOD ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance is predictive of student and school success. Students cannot learn if they are not present for instruction; an absence of as few as two days per month may put students at risk of falling behind academically.

How our district performance compares to other Oklahoma schools:
District:  81.97% of our students have good attendance
State:  77.83% of students statewide have good attendance

Beaver is one of 21 schools that scored an 82%

133 schools scored a 90% or better

CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM:  Chronic absenteeism refers to students who miss 10 percent or more of the school year for any reason. Regular attendance is predictive of student and school success. Research indicates that chronic absenteeism may place students at academic risk. Working with stakeholders, schools can affect positive changes in attendance. More information about this indicator can be found at sde.ok.gov/oklahoma-report-card-resources.

This indicator shows the percentage of students in good attendance.  Chronic Absenteeism is essentially a grade on the parents, not the school. However, the school district gets this indicator reflected upon the district performance.  Children can not learn if they are not in school on a regular basis.
